What to do if you transfer funds to the wrong account

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is a popular digital payment system in India that allows users to transfer money instantly between bank accounts using a mobile device. It was launched in 2016 by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and is now widely used by millions of people across the country. To use UPI, users need to download a UPI-enabled mobile app and link their bank account(s) to it. Once set up, they can transfer money to anyone with a UPI ID or a registered mobile number. They can also make payments at physical stores and online merchants that accept UPI payments.

UPI offers several advantages over traditional payment methods. It is faster, more secure, and more convenient than using cash or cheques. Transactions can be initiated 24/7, and there are no transaction fees for using UPI. Additionally, UPI allows users to manage multiple bank accounts through a single app. UPI also supports various other features like bill payments, online purchases, and money requests. Overall, UPI has revolutionized the way people in India transfer money and make payments, making it a convenient and accessible solution for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Actually UPI system is safe but lot of frauds are done through UPI services. The main problem with this is remittance. NPCI facilitates payment transactions using mobile number and QR code. UPI payments can be done by Google pay, Phonepay, Paytm etc. Sometimes we had a problem when we transfer money to friends, the money goes to someone else account. But don’t be panic when this situation happen. There are lot of ways get back money. As per RBI guidlines, if the user remits the money in person, the payment service provider should be informed first. whatever app you used to like Paytm, Phonepay, Googlepay etc.. report to their customer care support. Each UPI apps has it’s own customer support mechanism. You can report the issue and ask to refund the money.

Let’s see how to give complaint can be given NPCI portal

  • Go to official website npci.org.in
  • Click on ‘what we do’ tab
  • Select the UPI option
  • Now you can choose selelct Dispute Redressal mechanism
  • You can filed the complaint, including details like UPI transaction ID, virtual payment address, amount transferred, date of transaction, mobile number and email id etc.
  • Choose the ‘Incorrectly transfered  to another account’ as the reason of your complaint
  • Atlast you have submit your complaint

If your complaint is not resolved, you can report your complaint to the payment sevice provider bank on the PSP App. If your complaint is not resolved after above procedure, you can approach the banking Ombudsman after 30 days. As per RBI, a complaint can be filed by a writing complaint on a paper and sending it to the office of Ombudsman by post or fax or hand delivery. So you can choose this way also.
